Out of the Box

Team Rookies

What happens when you throw five burgeoning developers into a box with little but a prompt, a direction, and a dream to learn unity and make a fun puzzle game? Out of the Box was our team's answer that very question! (Though I can't say anyone actually posed it in that way.) As our first 3D game, Out of the Box was truly an exploration for each of us in our own unique ways, whether that be in figuring out how shooters work, making obstacle courses and mazes, slipping down slopes, or avoiding magma. We asked ourselves "How can we make a set of puzzles where you can figure out the answers from unique vantage points?" and like an inverted Rubix cube, this game was born.

  • Level Design, 3D Modelling and Programming for everything on the Red and White walls, the teleportation room, and the final scene. Programming is also inclusive of quest tracking, some camera controls and character movement, teleporting, etc. 

  • UI Art, Dest, and Implementation.

"Even from within, think outside the box."

Out of the Box is a puzzle platformer where the player, trapped within a giant box, must complete a unique puzzle on each side to get out. While you can focus on one puzzle at a time, take a look up and all the puzzles are there for you to see and plan around, revealing hidden pathways and difficult to find tokens. Pressing a button may even unlock pathways on another! Burning lava, falling quicksand, slippery ice floors, and many more challenges await within the walls of Out of the Box! Collect each wall's “completion pineapple” and find your way out!
